Introducing the RIPE NCC Roadmap
Introducing the RIPE NCC Roadmap
Mirjam Kühne — 22 Apr 2013

We often get asked about the status of our different services and projects, and while we frequently publish updates on RIPE Labs, we now have a new tool that makes it easier to stay informed. We're happy to announce the RIPE NCC Roadmap, where you can get an overview of all the latest developments and future plans for these services in one place. This prototype, which is hosted on RIPE Labs, will be further developed as we receive your feedback, so please let us know what you think!… Read more

RIPE Atlas Anchors Pilot: Update on Phase One
RIPE Atlas Anchors Pilot: Update on Phase One
Vesna Manojlovic — 15 Feb 2013

RIPE Atlas anchors are a more powerful version of a RIPE Atlas probe. They will act as targets to enable regional measurements towards them, and will allow more measurements to be performed from them. Together with the community, we are currently testing the capabilities and features of these RIPE Atlas anchors during a pilot phase. Production service will start in Q2 2013. … Read more

RIPE Atlas - Superstorm Sandy
RIPE Atlas - Superstorm Sandy
Emile Aben — 30 Oct 2012

After causing lots of damage in the Caribbean, superstorm Sandy is having a devastating effect on the US East Coast. We looked at the RIPE Atlas network to find out what effects this superstorm has on the Internet. Below are some preliminary results of what we saw.… Read more

Comparing TCP and UDP Response Times of DNS Root Servers
Comparing TCP and UDP Response Times of DNS Root Servers
Bert Wijnen — 17 Oct 2012

We did some measurements on the round-trip (RT) values of DNS queries for SOA (Start of Authority) records from our RIPE Atlas probes, over both UDP and TCP. We plotted the TCP/UDP ratios on graphs, and found that, as expected, for the majority of the measurements, it is around 2. However, we also observed other values for some servers (including K-root). Upon investigation, we found that the K-root servers were configured to allow at most 10 concurrent TCP connections. This caused several much bigger RT values than on other root servers. When we changed the configuration to allow for 100 concurrent TCP connections, K-root showed ratios similar to the other root servers.… Read more
