New Release of the Resource Certification System

Alex Band — Oct 2010
We are proud to announce a new release of the RIPE NCC Resource Certification system. We are gearing up for the production release on 1 January 2011 and have implemented some critical changes and new features.

Since 2007, the RIPE NCC has been working on a community-driven system that will issue digital certificates along with the assignment or allocation of Internet number resources (IPv4 and IPv6 addresses and autonomous system numbers). The system uses open standards that were developed in the Secure Inter-Domain Routing (SIDR) Working Group in the Internet Engineering Task Force (IETF).

At the moment we are gearing up for the production release of the RIPE NCC Resource Certification system on 1 January 2011. We have implemented some critical changes and new features, such as:

  • Moving the system to production grade hardware, which includes high availability features
  • Testing the disaster recovery plan and the ability to roll over the RIPE NCC trust anchor
  • Updating the subject and publication point of the RIPE NCC trust anchor certificates to conform to the IETF standards

The Resource Certification system can be used right now in the LIR Portal using test certificates, so you can familiarise yourself with it and provide us with feedback and suggestions on the interface and features. All you have to do is log into the LIR Portal using the admin account of your Local Internet Registry and enable Certification for one of the users. This user will be able to generate a certificate for their Internet number resources, as well as Route Origin Authorisation objects. These can be validated using the Validator for Resource Certification .

As always, your feedback is appreciated. If you have any questions or remarks, you can post a comment here or subscribe and post to the the certtest mailing list .
