About the author
I have worked in a variety of IT and networks roles since starting my career in 1994, including a large process engineering firm, a law firm, an ISP (Demon Internet), and McLaren Formula 1 racing team. I returned to the Internet business in 2001, landing a job as Senior Network Engineer for London Internet Exchange (LINX). After LINX, I worked for a while for an ISP consultant, designing, upgrading and troubleshooting networks with multiple vendors.
I currently work as a Senior Network Engineer for LONAP, another IXP in London. This role covers a wide variety of responsibilities including day-to-day support, network engineering and management, outage handling, integration and automation, and project-based work. I am also responsible for delivering LONAP's training courses in BGP, Networks and Peering.
I have specific interest and expertise in:

- Developing and delivering technical training
- Human factors and situational awareness in monitoring and alarm handling
