The RIPE Chair Team reports on the latest RIPE community highlights - from RIPE 91 preparation, to mentorship and fellowship programme upgrades, to policy updates and industry event takeaways.
RIPE 91 registrations and call for presentations

Please note that the early-bird registration for RIPE 91 will close on 21 July. The call for presentations is open until 31 July. For those of you who submitted proposals before, please note that we have a new submission system. It allows you to choose if you want to present in a working group session or in the plenary. It also asks you to indicate your availability during the meeting. This will make it easier for the Programme Committee and for WG chairs to set their agendas. Please do not hesitate to contact the PC or the WG chairs directly if you have any questions. You can find the email address for all WG co-chairs on the respective WG page.
RIPE 91 will also mark the hand-over from the current RIPE Chair Team to the next RIPE Chair Team. It is expected that the RIPE Nominating Committee will publish their final report including a number of recommendations before RIPE 91.
Mentorship and fellowship programmes
During RIPE 90 we received feedback on how to improve our mentorship programme. For RIPE 91, we will aim to make it easier for potential mentors and mentees to register and to find each other. For now, information about the mentorship programme can be found on the RIPE 91 website. You will also find a link to the mentorship programme in the registration form and the mail you receive after registering for RIPE 91.
We are working on providing additional information for mentors and to implement a useful matching between mentors and mentees. This will be an ongoing project.
At the same time, we are working with the RIPE NCC to improve and expand the RIPE fellowship programme. Drawing inspiration from other fellowship programmes, the idea is to develop a more long-term engagement with fellows and other new participants so that they and the community get the most out of this support programme.
While the RIPE NCC is kindly providing financial and administrative support for the fellowship programme, we as the community are asked to take a more active role in engaging with fellows and integrate them in our community. We will be looking for volunteers who are willing to guide the new fellows not only during the RIPE Meetings, but also before and after. The new programme will also require more engagement from the fellows themselves so that they can participate in a meaningful and ongoing way.
RIPE Code of Conduct Team
I am pleased to announce that since our last update another volunteer came forward for the RIPE Code of Conduct Team: David Verolme. His term will start at RIPE 91. Randy Bush stepped down from the team when he decided to run for the RIPE NCC Executive Board. Randy was one of the first Code of Conduct team members and I would like to thank him for his service. You can see all current team members on the RIPE Code of Conduct pages.
Ongoing RIPE policy discussions
Routing WG: The Discussion Phase for policy proposal 2502 (Revocation of Persistently Non-functional Delegated RPKI CAs) ended and entered the Review Phase (see the summary sent by the co-chairs). Please consult the Policy Development Process for more details on the exact process.
Address Policy WG: The discussion phase for the following proposals has ended:
- ASN assignment criteria revisited (2025-01)
- IPv6 Initial Allocations /28 (2024-02)
I expect that the WG co-chairs will soon announce any next steps.
Please also note a call for participation in the EU Expert Group for a Technology Roadmap on Encryption that the RIPE NCC shared with the community. I'm sure there is a lot of expertise in our community that this group can benefit from.
Based on feedback received during and after RIPE 90, we are working with the RIPE NCC to make it easier to find current policies on the RIPE NCC website and to sort them according to relevant topics. As a next step, we will review if any information can be consolidated (e.g. into a glossary or a definitions document). Please note that none of these activities will change any existing policies. Should the community want to engage in a more thorough review of the policy portfolio, this will of course be done in close corporation between the RIPE NCC and the RIPE community.

Industry Events
IGF 2025: Mirjam participated in the Internet Governance Forum that took place in Lillestrøm, Norway. You can find a more comprehensive report on RIPE Labs. It is noteworthy that there was active participation from other technical organisations such as the IETF (see IETF blog post) , ICANN, the Internet Society and of course members of the RIPE community such as the co-chair of the RIPE Cooperation WG.
RIPE NCC Executive Board Meeting: On 28 June, I attended the RIPE NCC Executive Board meeting #186 that was also held in Lillestrøm.
I wish you all a wonderful summer break and look forward to seeing many of you later in the year!
