The RIPE Chair Team rounds up the latest developments across the community, from RIPE 93 preparations and policy work to governance updates and community activities.
RIPE 93

Registration for the RIPE 93 meeting in October is open, so you can already go ahead and register to participate either online or in person in Sofia, Bulgaria. Please note that early bird registration (including payments) ends on 31 July.
The call for presentations is also open. You can submit talks for all sessions already. The deadline for plenary submissions is 14 August.
Policy update
Policy proposal 2025-01 "ASN assignment criteria revisited” has been withdrawn. A new proposal 2026-01 "Simplify assignment of first ASN" has been posted and is currently being discussed on the Address Policy Working Group mailing list.
The discussion phase for proposal 2024-01, "Revised IPv6 PI Assignment Policy" has ended. The proposers have agreed to advance it to the Review Phase.
Also please note that there's an ongoing discussion on the Address Policy working group mailing list related to IPv6 end-sites.
Working groups
Since our last update, the RIPE Working Group Chair Job Description and Procedures has been updated and is now published as ripe-861. It contains a section on the WG chair selection process. Some WGs have already started to implement those recommendations and we would like to recommend others to do the same.
NRO NC
I am pleased to report that the Number Resource Organisation's Numbers Council (NRO NC) is complete again with the AFRINIC community having selected two new members to join the team.
The NRO NC will publish an updated version of the draft RIR Governance Document in the next few weeks following their sessions during the ICANN 86 meeting in Seville.
RIPE Code of Conduct process
The RIPE Code of Conduct is now in place for about five years and I am happy to see that the process works and has been well accepted in the community. However, with the experience gained in the meantime, it is time to review the underlying documentation. We are working with the CoC Team on an updated version of the document describing the appointments and responsibilities of the team (currently ripe-793) and will share it with the community soon.
There is interest from other communities - such as local Network Operator Groups - to learn from our experience in setting up a code of conduct. We are planning to organise an online Open House session on the topic later this year.
RIPE Documents
We continue to clean up our RIPE Document Store. After fixing some inconsistencies mostly related to publication dates, we focussed on the document types. As a result, all RIPE documents that describe aspects of our community's governance and operations are now properly labeled and can be found in the RIPE Governance category.
As a next step, we're adding labels to the meta data that allow you to see who reviewed and approved a RIPE document. As an example, ripe-861 now shows that it was approved by the RIPE community.
Industry events
TNC 2026: Anna Wilson attended this year's TNC event and gave a presentation about the RIPE community, including our governance model and topics relevant to NRENs.
RIPE NCC Board Meeting #194: I participated in the June board meeting and gave an update on recent developments in the RIPE community including an update of RIPE 92.
IGF-D: I was invited to present at an online event organised by the Internet Governance Forum Germany (IGF-D). The topic was related to protocols, numbers and names. I talked about the distribution of IP addresses, the RIPE community, how decisions are made and how policy is developed.
IETF 126: I'll also be attending the IETF 126 meeting in Vienna in July.
With that, we wish you all a lovely and peaceful summer.
