The RIPE Chair Team reports on what to expect at RIPE 92, including the main programme and parallel events, WG chair selections and support for newcomers, as well as highlights from recent industry events.

RIPE 92

RIPE 92

The RIPE 92 meeting is approaching fast. The plenary and the community plenary agendas have been published as well as most working group agendas. Please refer to the RIPE 92 Meeting Plan for more information (note that the times on the meeting plan are UTC+1). I am also looking forward to an inspiring Diversity in Tech session again which will focus on various challenges in the workplace.

There will be two BoF sessions: one on Monday, "Bridging IETF and RIPE - From Standards to Operations and back", and one on Thursday, "Practical AI".

Don't forget to think about any ideas for research you might want to propose for the research exchange (as described in our previous RIPE Labs update).

Of course, we have lined up some great social events again, including an alcohol-free board games evening on Wednesday.

And if you have not yet applied for your ETA to enter Scotland, please do so before you arrive at the border.

Parallel Events

I am pleased that the DNS-OARC workshop will take place in conjunction with the RIPE Meeting again which will be a good opportunity for more close collaboration with this community.

Another side event that will take place on Monday morning during the RIPE 92 week is the Third Integrity Workshop organised by the Global Cyber Alliance. A summary will be presented during the Security workshop later in the week.

Newcomers at RIPE 92

If ths is your first RIPE Meeting, we have a number of special activities lined up for you. You can find more information on the RIPE 92 newcomers page.

Code of Conduct Team at RIPE 92

The terms of two members of the Code of Conduct Team ended after RIPE 91, and I am happy to announce that both of them, Andrew McConachie and Rob Lister, will continue on the team. You can see the full team on the RIPE 92 website.

Public Speaking

As mentioned earlier, the RIPE NCC developed an online tutorial on public speaking. I strongly recommend it to all speakers at RIPE 92. There will also be a face-to-face tutorial on Monday morning at RIPE 92.

RIPE WG Chair Selections

A number of working groups are looking for new co-chairs. The selection will take place during RIPE 92. The WG chairs started a conversation about how to align the selection processes. This will be discussed during the community plenary. The new draft WG chair job description also contains a section with best practices for a fair selection process. A Last Call for this document was issued last week.

Industry Events

Over the last few weeks, we participated in the following events.

ICANN Dialogues

ICANN Dialogues: I was invited to participate in a panel discussion on Internet outages that was organised by ICANN for government representatives in Brussels (photo credits: Dimitris Zacharias).

SEE 14: At the fourteenth regional meeting of the South East European community that took place in Belgrade (SEE 14), I gave an overview of recent discussions and developments in the RIPE community.

Data for Internet Policy: Last week, the Waag Futurelab in Amsterdam held a workshop to define what type of Internet measurements and other related data would be useful for policy makers. It turned out that there is a wealth of data available, but it might not be known to policy makers or not accessible in a way that is understandable to policy makers.

I hope to see you all in Edinburgh next week!
