About the author

Matthias is a computer networks researcher and currently serves as Team Lead for Research and Development at DE-CIX, one of the world’s largest Internet Exchange operators. In this role, he oversees DE-CIX’s research activities on Internet infrastructure measurement, security, and optimization, as well as community engagement and publicly funded projects in collaboration with partners from industry and academia. Over the past years, he has been a regular speaker at RIPE Meetings and other community events.

The IRR Landscape: What RPKI Can Replace

In the third part of our IRR landscape series, we use traffic measurements from AMS-IX and DE-CIX to assess which parts of the IRR landscape can safely be replaced with RPKI. Third-party ROUTE(6) objects can largely be phased out, while third-party AS-SETs remain essential for BGP filter generation.
