iPlane traceroute Dataset

Harsha V. Madhyastha — Sep 2010
Contributors: ethankb
This dataset contains traceroutes from PlanetLab nodes and traceroute servers that are done as part of the iPlane project at the University of Washington. This data starts 2006-06-23 and is updated daily. The data hosted on the Data Repository is a copy of the original data that is hosted at the University of Washington, but the historical logs are remastered so they contain only a single tarball per day. Additional data gathered by iPlane such as link latency and loss measurements as well as processed versions of the traceroutes are available at

Hi there,
I'm trying to access the iplane dataset but the download link doesn't seem to work. Is there any alternative way to get the iplane data?
Thank you!

Vasileios, in order to download the data sets from RIPE Labs, you need to create an account and agree to the terms and conditions (as described above under "Access Requirements"). Please let us know if you still have problems downloading the data set then.

Hi, Is there a way to download multiple days dataset without having to do them individually? Also do you have any API's which will permit me to download the datasets using wget?
Emile Aben says:

Hi Meenakshi, I think you'll have to download the files individually. I think, if your RIPE Access account doesn't have 2 factor authentication, you can use wget to download the files with the --user and --password options.

Was using wget --user=****** --password=******[…]/traces_2016_08_15.tar.gz downloads ~58kb tar file whereas the file is 836M. Am I doing something wrong?
Mirjam Kühne says:

Dear Sagnik, it is not possible to use wget with username and password. You need to log in to RIPE NCC Access which will set a cookie, then save the cookie in a file and tell wget to use it. I hope this helpw.
